to take the ship down to Canh-rai Ray at once. I

arrived there at 11 p.m. I had no sickness on

board whatever and was never visited by a doctor

during my stay, and no opportunity of sending for

or signalling for one in case of necessity. At

6 a.m. on the 20th May a pilot boat passed under my

stern and called to take the quarantine flag down

and that the steamer was granted pratique I had a

nail on board the whole time."

In contrast to this the M.M.S.S."Yarra" from

Hong Kong (where she coaled) was allowed to come up

to town as usual and deliver her mails.

This quarantine was instituted on the 14th

May upon all vessels arriving from Hong Kong -

and is still in force.

(Signed)

I have &c.,

Chas. F. Tremlett.

H.B.M.Consul.
